In August 1998, the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was established with the goal to cultivate advanced electrical engineering talent and promote technical upgrades in the industry. To work in concert with the school’s ultimate aim to become an international applied research university, a  dual-method development strategy was implemented by including construct practice features and academic research promotion. Due to the exceptional research achievements and experience of the college instructors, the college has actively established an independent characteristic, strengthened industry-academia collaboration, promoted international cooperation and exchanges, all to elevate the international reputation and competitiveness of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.

The College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences currently contains three departments, one graduate institute and eight research centers, which are: Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering, and Center for Optoelectronics Science and Technology, Telecommunication Technology Center, Power and Energy System Research Center, Power Electronics and Motor Control Research Center, Internet Technology Center, SoC Research Center, Energy Diagnostic Service System Center, and Game, Animation,Graphics, and Entertainment Center.

The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering was established in 1974 as one of the founding departments of the school; the Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1978. Both departments established graduate classes in 1979, and doctoral classes in 1983. In response to the industry’s requirements and to efficiently support the IT industry in innovative research and development, adjustments were made to the college by establishing the Graduate Institute of Computer Science and Information Engineering in August, 1999, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering in August, 2001, and the Graduate Institute of Electro-Optical Engineering in August, 2006. Furthermore, recruitments for the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences bachelor class began in the 2016 academic year with the goal to cultivate talent with broad vision, professional qualities, and global competitiveness advantages.

The college’s development of academic affairs includes: 1) to elevate teaching performance, continue to integrate courses efficiently, and intensify general education courses; 2) combine research resources, establish strong research teams, and support the industry’s innovative research and development; 3) actively promote international interactions, broadly recruit top quality foreign research students, strengthen interactions between faculty and students, bilingual counseling, accelerate international cooperation and interactions; 4) plans for “Activation of Advanced Electrical Engineering Technology” as future research area with the goal to provide high quality living environments, as to fulfill the school’s development feature toward an applied research institute.
